What Does Google Look For With SEO?

Most people in the SEO industry (and its shadow children — basically the Web spam community) seem to have dedicated themselves to the cause of calling Googlers liars, cheats, and frauds simply because they don’t believe that the algorithms and processes work the way Google says they do. That’s a pretty hard chunk of rock to swallow but for some reason many people who lack the education, experience, and skills to build their own search engine would rather think the worst of Google (and to a lesser extent Bing) than accept that the myriad of assertions made by Googlers are at the very least solidly grounded in undisclosed fact.
