Why Bing Cannot Loosen Google’s Grip on Search

“It was the average Webmaster that made Google the giant in the search engine, not the PPC specialists.” I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here. What’s struck me in my many years of Bing (Live Search, MSN Search) watching is how the “Microsoft attitude” has infected Bing to virtually ensure it is a lesser search product than Google, by the measure either of organic or paid search. What I mean by the “Microsoft attitude” is “how can we leverage [whatever] to increase our profitability.” A great example of this to contrast with Google’s approach is product search. Google has long offered free listings to qualified online vendors, originally through Google Base, and these days with Google Merchant Center.
