Excellent post. I'm glad someone still can show that there are up sides to EMDs. I had the unique experience of launching a niche site for a company about 4 years ago using an exact match domain, violating most of your "best practice" rules (this was what the CEO wanted, not my choice). Within 8 months that site made page 1 Google for the #1 targeted term, which is fairly competitive. It has been on page 1 ever since, even after Panda, Penguin and any EMD algo changes that Google has rolled out. 4 years later, I launched another niche site, targeting exactly the same set of keywords for a competitor who basically hired me away from my previous employer and said "We want you to do for us what you did for them."
