Why should Google care about Webmasters? Or SEOs come to that? As an SEO it's my job to stay on top of things, not Google's to make it easy for me. More SEO is probably done on 'poor' sites (esp black-hat SEO) than 'good' ones to try and get them above everyone else. As for do users notice the difference? Most of the time probably not - but that doesn't mean that the results aren't improving (though often enough as an SEO it doesn't seem to me to be the case; and, personally, I hate the way Google is going with many of its changes - but from a user and not SEO perspective - and am thinking, and have blogged about it "Is it time for a new search engine to emerge?") Then, even if there isn't an improvement in user experience does it really matter? Surely the fact a change hasn't helped improve the SERPs shouldn't mean that Google shouldn't try just because 'some' webmasters ...
