Great article. I thought I'd chime in here since "Joe's" story is my story. I'm a cabinetmaker, not a plumber, but you've got the narrative spot on. 15 years ago if you were a small business you were ahead of the game if you had any website at all, then you had to learn the basics of keywords and title tags and you could declare yourself a guru of internet marketing. Then things got harder and you needed a professional. If you treated your search for an SEO vendor like you would any other professional such as an attorney or accountant you stood a fair chance of making a good choice and hiring wisely. We interviewed several candidates and hired an honest and reputable gentleman who did great work for us.
