When Should You Use Link Research Tools? via @seo_theory

Visit any random SEO blog and you won’t have much trouble finding articles that share link research tools, link building tools, etc. You can even find a few such articles here on SEO Theory. In fact I used my first link research and link building tools in 1999 (maybe even 1998 although I am not positive about that). Linking tools have been around since Danny Sullivan ‘s grandma first coined the expression “search engine optimization specialist”. SEO forums also spew out endless advice about which link tools are the best, how to use them, etc. Frankly, I no longer have much use for link tools but I do still use them on occasion . The average beginning SEO specialist has a greater need for link research tools than anyone who has been active in search engine optimization for at least a year.
