Apple Plans to Drop Native YouTube App From iOS 6

Apple will drop the stand-alone version of the YouTube video player from its iOS mobile platform. The company on Monday confirmed that beta versions of the iOS 6 platform would be the first not to include a YouTube app by default. In a statement provided to V3 , the company said that its licensing deal with Google had expired, bringing an end to an Apple-developed YouTube player. "Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store," the statement read. While the move will bring an end to the embedded YouTube player on iOS 6 devices, users who run iOS 5 and older versions of the platform will still be able to use the YouTube application.
