The 6 Month Link Building Plan for an Established Website

Good link building plan, but my genuine concern has always revolved around the concept of sustainable link building strategies. I completely understand the concept of 6 month link building or 1 year link building in cases where the website is pretty new and needs to have that initial push for building links. But I feel that purpose is somewhere lost. In this damn age of Panda and Penguin, the best way to survive is to ensure that the website itself becomes a link machine. What I mean to say is that the aim of all the link building strategies should be to promote the website not for rankings but for awareness. Awareness that the website is a great source for great content which people will obviously link to. One other concept that very few people are aware of is citations.
