You are misunderstanding the mapping issue slightly, I think. The Maps app is only one of tens of thousands of iOS apps that use Apple’s mapping API’s on iOS. Google Maps are not just going to be replaced in the Maps app; they are going to be replaced in every map in every app on iOS. The apps ask the system for a map and the system returns one, which today uses Google data.
