Every Link on the Page is There for the User

I could not help but notice an interesting new discussion in an SEO forum where someone asked how many navigational links you can put on the page and still not trigger a Panda downgrade. A moderator quickly stepped in to admonish the asker to not think in terms of how many links the search engine will tolerate but rather how many links a user is likely to click on. This discussion reminded me of several I had last year after Google rolled out its Panda scoring algorithm. I browsed hundreds of downgraded Websites and read numerous case studies where people documented their attempts to recover from Panda. And I spoke with quite a few people about sites that seemed to have been affected.
