The “Content is King” crowd pays less attention to the aggregation of links for the sake of influencing search results. The “It’s All About Links” crowd devotes the bulk of its resources to promoting any type of quality through targeted linking. You can easily draw a Venn diagram that leaves a huge part of the SEO community squarely in the middle or common ground of these two extreme schools of thought, but that would probably be misleading.
