Google Changes Ranking Advice, Says Build Quality Sites Not Links #SEO

Links will always be a central part of Google’s algorithm. if it wasn’t important to their algo, why would they spend so much time penalising sites / tweaking their algo so that only high quality links have value? In addition to this, there is no other factor which is reliable enough that Google can use in their algo to replace the large part that links play. They don’t have access to all the social data out there (eg Facebook) so they can’t use social as a central rankings factor because they don’t have the full picture. Links will always matter – this simply shows that they are still trying to stop people building them and would rather they happened naturally, which is something they have always promoted.
